Unified Health Solutions
When Heather and Eric moved to Dayton from another state, they enrolled in the Mad River School District and joined the First STEP program run by Unified Health Services (UHS) at their school.  At the beginning of the year, Eric had anger management issues as well as some academic struggles.  Heather needed some homework discipline.  They are both now succeeding in school and their teachers credit the First STEP program with building a foundation for their success.

Dan, a single father, is so pleased that his children have been making great progress in school, after starting out with low grades and a lack of motivation.  He credits First STEP’s prevention coordinator with providing the discipline and encouragement his daughter needed to greatly improve her grades and achieve honor roll for the first time.  His son is now more accepting of rules and has developed the discipline needed to succeed with the help of UHS staff.

Unified Health Services, a United Way Partner Agency, provides services that address all three building blocks of life and United Way priorities – education, income, and health.  This year UHS is receiving $166,704 in United Way contributions to provide emergency prescriptions for the under- and uninsured, to coordinate services for area teens, and to provide prevention programs for at-risk youth and their families.  These are just two examples of the more than 25,000 children and youth in Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties who received services last year to help them succeed in school and life … thanks to generous contributions to United Way.
