Press Release
United Way Announces 2008 Funding

Dayton, OH, July 2, 2008
- Volunteers for the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area have allocated $5.6 million to 99 local health and human service programs for funding beginning July 1st.  The volunteers reviewed 128 proposals requesting $2.3 million more than was available.  “The proposals documented the growing demand for services in our community,” United Way President Marc R. Levy said.  “The volunteers had tough decisions to make.”

The volunteers based their decisions on the 2007 Community Needs Assessment published by the United Way and the resulting funding priorities as well as program results, agency capacity, and available resources.  All funded programs address three Priority Areas:  Positive Youth Development, Financial Stability Leading to Independence, and Health and Well-Being of Individuals and the Community.

The $5.6 million represents the funds available for the United Way volunteers to distribute from the 2007 Campaign.  An additional $2.3 million will go to the 78 United Way Partner Agencies and $748,000 to other nonprofit organizations providing a health or human service in the Miami Valley from individual contributions directed to specific agencies.  $195,000 will support community initiatives and emerging needs in the coming year.  In total, $8.9 million from the campaign will support services.

Twelve new programs meeting high priority needs were funded:

The majority of programs were funded for three years.  New programs and those with significant changes received a one-year allocation.  Click here to see a complete listing of the funded programs .
